Barbour Memorial Hall is a volunteer-run community hall in the village of Glencaple, a few miles south of Dumfries in the South of Scotland. Built in 1938 and opened in June 1939, the hall has served Glencaple and the surrounding Caerlaverock area since, as the focal community gathering and social space, hosting weddings, school concerts, dances, sports nights, meetings, music concerts and much more. 

Caerlaverock is a popular and scenic tourist destination on the shores of the Solway Firth and home to Caerlaverock Castle, Caerlaverock National Nature Reserve and Caerlaverock Wetland Centre. For more information on our area visit the website of our Caerlaverock Community Association. 

Since opening, the hall has been run by voluntary trustees who live in or near the village. In 2020, the hall became a registered Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO). In recent years, trustees have been raising funds for repair and renovation of the hall, to provide a sustainable, modern and practical space that meets the needs of our community. We are a two-tier SCIO, made-up a trustee group and a wider group of members. Membership is open to everyone with an interest in the work of the hall, aged 16 or over. This is an important part of our SCIO governance structure that ensures we have a strong engagement with the wider community. We encourage anyone who would like to apply to become a member.
